Every country has a different training program for pediatricians. An undergraduate degree or a graduate degree in medicine can be obtained. Graduate entry is a five- to six year period at a university. This type of degree is very common in the Commonwealth.

Students who are enrolled in graduate programs at the University of Texas for between four and five years typically do so. They must have completed a four year college degree in science before they can apply for graduate courses. They are then certified as medical doctors and can be licensed in their country of residence. Further training is required for pediatricians.

This depends on the location they reside in and their specialized degree. Pediatricians in some countries, such as the United States, must also complete a residency program. While some pediatricians are specialists in pediatrics, others specialize in pediatric ophthalmology or pediatric endocrinology.
